We are providing a list of TO-based jokers and organizations that we endorse here for a very specific reason: historic marginalization. It is one of Stage Left’s core values to attend to the differences between equal opportunity and equal access. Equal opportunity implies that all people are the same and therefore have the same chances as each other for “success”. Equal access recognizes that so many of us are marginalized by and oppressed because of our social identies as “others” (queer, of color, poor, disabled, Aboriginal, etc.) and that our differences create barriers in opportunities for “success”. In this section, then, any organizations or jokers we include here are those who are creating their own opportunities in ways that celebrate differences rather than negate them and in ways that attend to the need for those of us on the margins to locate ourselves within the centre – on our own term, rather than through assimilation processes. In other words, we endorse TO jokers and groups who necessarily attend to social justice because we need to in our own lives, rather than those who attend to social justice on behalf of us “others”.
